Your voice stays on your Mac
Transcription and rephrasing both run on-device. Here is exactly what leaves your Mac — and it is a short list.
What never leaves your Mac
Your audio, your recordings, and your transcripts never leave your Mac. Transcription and rephrasing both run on-device, so nothing is ever uploaded anywhere to process them, and Aly has no way to send a dictation to us even if it wanted to — there is no such setting, and no endpoint behind it. The vocabulary Aly learns from you — names, jargon, acronyms — stays local too.
What is sent, and when
Beyond that, two things leave your Mac on their own. Your email address, when you start a trial or buy a license — that's how we know it's you.
And a one-way hash identifying your Mac, sent when you sign in to start or resume a trial. Without it, a throwaway email could restart the free trial forever; the hash lets our server recognize “this Mac already had a trial” without us having to know anything else about it. It's built from a hardware identifier run through SHA-256, so it can't be reversed back into that identifier. It's not a secret in a stronger sense than that, though — it isn't designed to withstand someone reverse-engineering the app itself, only to stop casual trial resets. We don't share it with anyone.
Payments
Purchases are handled by Stripe. Your card details go straight to Stripe and never reach Aly's servers.
Deleting your data
Your recordings and transcripts never leave your Mac, so there is nothing of that kind to delete on our end — removing them locally is all it takes. What we do hold is your email address and the one-way hash of this Mac. Want those removed? Get in touch and we'll take care of it.
